Odyssey_54_Web-aSynopsis – The Odyssey

The small sleepy New England town of Oakville is unexpectedly struck by a devastating flood. The people as much as it was possible were able to deal with the flood and its disruption of their lives.  But it was the aftermath of this disaster and what it brought to them that had a lasting effect on each and every citizen of this small village.
When the dam above the town was built, it changed the course of a river flowing underground, and up to now it had never been a problem.  But the huge rush of raging water surging through the town was instrumental in rerouting the underground river back to its original course and in so doing had created a large sinkhole.
Two young brothers, curious as to what happened to their oak tree, took it upon themselves to investigate the sink hole and quickly learned that was where their tree had disappeared to.  But what they discovered at the bottom of that hollow embedded in its side was more than they or their parents and neighbors could possibly expect to find.  At first glance, they weren’t sure what it was.  But on further investigation knew it was a probe.  They were also certain that it did not come from the future, but from the very distant past, antiquity as one would put it, but who or why they couldn’t begin to guess.
While the adults pondered what to do with their discovery, the two young brothers had other ideas.  They thought the probe was a space ship, or at least that’s what it looked like to them. When morning came, they rushed down to see their “space ship” and decided to take command and sail into space.  When they pushed the buttons on the probe they initiated a set of circumstances that took that little village and everyone in it on a journey that would change their lives forever.
The probe transferred the entire neighborhood to a planet drifting in space and to the trials and tribulations the inhabitants had suffered when its twin suns collided and destroyed all life within.  The probe had a two-fold mission: find an intelligent species who could help them survive the oncoming catastrophe; if that failed, find a people who could be persuaded to remember their existence, and who in time would become a part of them.            *Excerpts and reviews of all my novels can be viewed on my website: http://elenadb.home.comcast.net.

Adams Point Book III of the Legacy Series by Elena Dorothy Bowman

August 3, 2009 at 8:15 pm (Uncategorized) (, , , , , , , , , , , , , )

Synopsis:

bowman_AdamsPointC3-a The third and final episode begins with Ethan’s return to Adams Point after taking some of the guests to Caleb’s Cove in order to lesson the danger that might engulf them.  After the disappearances of the McCutcheons and the Holms, he thought it was a wise move to make until he could unravel the mystery of their disappearances.

Ethan had deposited the four couples in the Bed and Breakfast motels in Caleb’s Cove and asked Tom, one of the Sheriff’s men to watch over them until he could return for them.  And seeing that they were safely established within their rooms bid them good-bye and headed back to Adams Point, promising that he would return with the others as soon as he found them.

He was in a hurry to return to the Point because he didn’t like leaving Abigail alone.  It wasn’t that he didn’t trust the people he left her with.  He didn’t trust the house. It tried to make her a part of it before, not once but twice, and he wasn’t about to let it happen again.  He knew she wasn’t really alone there were three other couples with her along with Tony who would never let anything happen to her.  Still, he wasn’t there and he wanted to get back to her as quickly as he could.  He knew the strange happenings and disappearances of two couples from the Inn had really shaken his remaining guests.  Even if they didn’t leave with the others who were quick to take Ethan up on his offer, they were still unnerved.  They had decided to stay with Ethan, Abigail and Tony instead of going aboard the Abigail for a half-hour sail to the small village of Caleb ‘s Cove and what was considered safety.

Adams Point by Elena Dorothy Bowman
Genre/Sub-genre: Paranormal/Suspense Romance

A brooding apparition hangs over the House on The Bluff on Adam’s Point. People are missing and the spirit that has taken control of the house isn’t about to give them up easily. While Ethan and Abigail are used to dealing with the vagaries of their house and the usual spirits that inhabit it, they have no idea how to deal with this new spirit who seems to be holding the house and its occupants hostage.

As the house both attracts and repels the inhabitants, Ethan, Abigail and their guests begin their search for their missing friends within. As they search the mystery surrounding the house starts to unwind as portals into other worlds open up. Can they survive long enough to save those who are trapped?

And what of the relic that an ancient Crusader knight seeks? Is the relic the key to what keeps the house standing? And what exactly will the Knight do to get the relic back to where it belongs?

I liked the prologue at the start of Adams Point. Although I had read the previous book, it was a good recap for me. I believe anyone picking this book up for the first time would easily be able to work out the preceding story by reading the prologue.

The characters in the book are portrayed as normal everyday people who are faced with the supernatural. Abigail and Ethan, the owners of the Inn , know they have ghosts but they have no specials skills or tricks to deal with the situation they are in. Their guests are the same. This made the story more believable to me as I kept thinking would I stick around on my vacation trying to solve a mystery or would I get out and go to somewhere like Club Med? I particularly like the character of Jacob, the ghostly retainer who stays to do his duty. There is something charming and honorable in that. I would have liked to have seen more of him in the book.

This is a spooky almost psychological mystery. I could not work out what was happening. Every time I thought I knew the answer I was wrong. I kept wondering if the House of the Bluff had a life all of its own or if it was being controlled by outside sprits.

I don’t want to ruin the story but I had to wonder why the whole relic thing had not come up as an issue before in the house especially due to the house’s history.

To me, Adams Point is an eerie what-the- heck-is-going-on-here book. You want to kept reading to find out the why and how and will the characters survive. That in itself makes it an good read. –  Janet Davies – Once Upon a Romance

Legacy Series: Adam’s Point
By Chrissy Dionne

When we last visited ADAM’S POINT in the previous book, GATEKEEPER’S REALM, readers were left with many questions regarding the spirits that inhabit the made over Inn which had once been known as Pierce House. Guests have disappeared and there’s a sinister wraith hoovering over the building. Some of the guests have opted to return to Caleb’s Cove where they believe they’ll be safe from the danger lurking at Adams Point, but are they really?

Ethan, Abigail and the guests who chose to remain at Adams Point have no clue what to expect from the wraith or what to do to appease it. With two couples already missing, Tony’s mysteriously disappeared, and unbeknownst to anyone at Adams Point, Jill, one of the guests whom Ethan had dropped off in town has also disappeared. The apparition obviously intends to do whatever it has to in order to ensure his demands are met and until then Ethan, Abigail, Tony and the guests are all at its mercy.

Abigail harbors hope that Jacob, one of the original ghosts – and a friend, will escape the wraith’s clutches long enough to clue them in on what needs to be done to release them all from the nightmare in which they’ve found themselves. In the meantime, the men devise plans to find and rescue the missing people while protecting the women. One of their plans is for the women to leave Adam’s Point and stay at Caleb’s Cove where they’ll be safe. Only it soon becomes painfully obvious that the wraith’s plans don’t include allowing any of them any measure of safety. The only way to satisfy it is to return to the Inn and attempt to appease it somehow. Where have the missing people disappeared to and why? Will Jacob be able to break the wraith’s hold and return to Abigail to let her know what’s going on and what needs to be done to correct the situation?

After reading GATEKEEPER’S REALM I was fascinated with the characters and the vivid imagery that enthralled me throughout the storyline. I’m thrilled to say that Elena Dorothy Bowman’s continuation of the story in ADAMS POINT contains all the same traits that have made the LEGACY series a thrilling read. I loved the men’s alpha attitude and determination to protect the women and had to laugh at the women’s not without us attitude. While the sinister apparition kept me guessing at what stunt it would pull next I was really hopeful to meet Jacob and learn just how he could help satisfy the wraith. I do have to confess while I was quite sure there would be a happy ending for the couples, I wasn’t anticipating the emotions which I experienced at the end of the story – sorry I can’t say more because it’d give too much away.

I would recommend reading all three of the books in the LEGACY series – HOUSE ON THE BLUFF, GATEKEEPER’S REALM and ADAM’S POINT in order to fully experience the wonders carefully hidden and guarded in this fascinating house/Inn.

The Gatekeepers Realm, Book II of The Legacy Series By Elena Dorothy Bowman

August 3, 2009 at 8:01 pm (Uncategorized) (, , , , , , , , , , , , , )

Gatekeeper's Realm_Book 2Synopsis:This was the day Abigail was waiting for — the arrival of the schooner Abigail with her first guests at the grand opening of her Inn on Adams Point. It had stood uninhabited for centuries, yet to this day, its beauty and elegance can only be described as ageless and unspoiled. Her husband, Ethan, with his friend, Tony, the town’s sheriff, had picked up the guests at the pier at Caleb Cove and were bringing them to the Inn by sea.
A strange odyssey befell every guest during their stay at the Inn.  Each day brought new challenges, new mysteries and new apprehension. And the nights, well, the nights were especially baffling. What transpired during their sleep not only caught them off guard, but shook the very depths of their souls wondering if they would ever see the light of day again. They had climbed into their beds to rest, only to discover upon awakening their sleep was not what they expected. Nor was it something they wanted to talk about — that is, not all of them. All they knew was their recent strange journeys and experiences, brought them to the conclusion: It is much safer off shore aboard the schooner “Abigail” during a violent storm, than to be on dry land on a sunny day, when “The House” wavers into its unknown and unstable dimensions.

Gatekeeper’s Realm – Paranormal/Futuristic

An ancient relic granted by Divine Decree to a Noble Knight who had been mortally wounded is buried beneath the foundation of a home – this home had once been named Pierce House but now is known as THE HOUSE ON THE BLUFF. Only a direct descendant of the Noble Knight may take possession of the house – and even he or she will be tested by the house to deem if he or she is worthy.
Abigail and her consort, Ethan, have fulfilled the prophecy surrounding their current dwelling which they’ve converted into an Inn. It’s a beautiful house steeped in mystery and ghostly wonders – who cling to the old ways. There’s no electricity, no running water, no central heating system, no phone and no television. Abigail’s a bit apprehensive about their first guests. There’s a possibility they’ll get spooked and want to leave especially once the ghosts make themselves known. There’s no way of telling how the ghosts will react to guests at the Inn and Jacob, the apparitions’ “Ambassador,” knows it will just depend. Many of the ghosts have been living there for centuries and may not like having visitors in their house.
As soon as the first guests arrives a shapeless apparition appears over the Inn. Abigail, Ethan, and Tony (town sheriff and sometime permanent resident of the Inn when he’s not working) quickly realize that this apparition is not one of the ‘Others’ and they question who it is and what it wants. The ghostly appearance doesn’t scare off the guests though and is just the beginning of the bizarre appearances which will be taking place over the next couple of days. What will happen when the guests unexplainably begin to start disappearing – one or two at a time? Is the house holding them hostage?
I don’t normally read ghost stories but I have to tell you I was fascinated by this one! Elena Dorothy Bowmen’s GATEKEEPER’S REALM takes an ancient prophecy and brings it into a modern day setting with results that will steal your breath. I was enthralled by the ghost scenes and the guests reactions to each of them and couldn’t wait to find out what would happen next or to whom it would happen. The storyline moved along at a quick pace but it never lacked enough descriptive information that I was easily able to imagine each of the scenes.
I would highly recommend reading HOUSE ON THE BLUFF first simply because I believe it goes into more of the details of what Abigail had to endure in order to claim the house. Of course, I’m also going to recommend the third book, ADAM’S POINT, because there are questions that are left unanswered in this story and I’m dying to find out the answers. HOUSE ON THE BLUFF, GATEKEEPER’S REALM and ADAM’S POINT are all available now.

Review from Once Upon A Romance:
Once Upon A Romance’s Review Of…
Gatekeeper’s Realm by Elena Dorothy Bowman
Genre/Sub-genre: Paranormal/Suspense Romance

The house on The Bluff is a house with history. The house overlooks the Bay of Death. It has seen great battles and characters. It has no modern conveniences but it is full of characters and old world charm. It’s also full of ghostly apparitions called “the Others”.

Abigail and Ethan are the present owners of the house. They plan to run it as an Inn for guests to come and experience the history and the beauty of the area. They are well aware that what they do is purely dependant on the will of “the others”. Jacob, the spirit that oversees “the others”, has been silent on their plans for the Inn. Is this a good thing or a bad thing?

When there first lot of guests arrive, Abigail and Ethan hold their breaths waiting on their ghostly inhabitants reaction. The guests at the Inn are charmed, amazed and spooked by the apparitions – knights of old, British Redcoats and pirates – that appear and disappear before their eyes. However when guests start to go missing, it is no longer as charming as they first believed. Do they stay or go? And will the House actually let them go?

I am a sucker for a good prologue and Gatekeeper’s Realm certainly had one. I was thinking what is going on here and let me read more. It’s an interesting thought that so much history in one house can determine the fate of many and the destiny of what happens in the house.

I like the characters of Abigail and Ethan as they try and make a go at running a business in the most difficult of circumstances. The fact the “the others” technically allow them to live in the house is an interesting premise. I like how Abigail and Ethan are pretty laid back to having ghosts wandering in and out and having to deal with Jacob the liaison offer, if you like, between the living and the dead. The secondary characters, the guests, are all well written and believable. I would like to think I would coolly handle all the things that happened to them as well as they did.

I was a little confused at the ending. I am hoping there is a sequel to answer all the questions I still wanted answered. Also, I was kind of disappointed that ghostly go-between Jacob did not have much of a part in the book. I kept waiting for him to appear and lead the characters to discover whatever it was they were to know or find or be.

Gatekeeper’s Realm is an interesting read. It’s spooky and it makes you wonder abut people and their individual reactions to different situations. If there is a book 3 I’d like to read it.  — Janet Davies – Once Upon a Romance

L1-House on the Bluff_Book 1-54Synopsis – The House On The Bluff – Book 1 – Legacy Series
*
Suspense, Mystery, Drama, Romance….

When Abigail Adams Pierce stumbled onto the family legacy, she never imagined in her wildest dreams what the effect her discovery would have on her from that moment on. Intrigued by the description of an 18th Century ancestor’s blood-curdling screams in the dark of night, and never having been heard from again, piqued her curiosity. She had to see what it was about the “house” that made people tremble. Why no one had ventured near it since 1789; why no one had dared.

According to the stories handed down from one generation to another, it had been there for centuries, standing tall … empty … beckoning …maintaining its enchantment and its ageless elegance, rising as a silent sentinel waiting for the one long destined to enter to claim ownership.Waiting for someone? Me, she thought. The house was waiting for me. It had to be.

Little did she know that her curiosity would take her on a hair-raising journey she would never forget; a journey that once started would have no turning back at the risk of losing her life in the physical sense and being trapped within the spiritual realm that had invaded the Pierce House. She dismissed, out of hand, warnings of the terror, foretold, lurking within the “house” that went along with claiming ownership.

This then was her family’s legacy handed down from the 11th Century to the descendent who would dare to enter in spite of its warnings … A legacy that prophesized the danger and horrendous trials set before it.Neither was she aware that if she didn’t take the first step into this foreboding journey, she would never meet the one who was preordained to be her Consort. All she knew was that it would all start on the day she entered the family’s ancestral home by the sea.

Review by Anne K. Edwards, Mystery Fiction.net

A mysterious house lures people to it and they are never heard from again–alive.  This causes fear in the neighborhood of Adam’s Point to leave so it is isolated as well, except for one young man who is staying at his family’s summer cottage.

Abigail has come to lay claim to this house with its bleak atmosphere, but the question is, will she claim the house or will it claim her? She is tempted more than once to flee the sights and sounds she encounters, but determination makes her stay.

A story that seems to have a touch of horror, but the reader will find there is a twist in the plot that leads away from that idea.  Ghosts abound with doors closing on their own, mysterious music with no apparent source, meals appearing on cue with no staff, cold unappealing rooms, all adding their own touch to the atmosphere of a house you will enjoy visiting while waiting for Abigail and her new friends, Ethan and Tony, to figure things out.

Talented author Elena Dorothy Bowman offers the reader something new in paranormal romance in a world peopled by fun characters (including the house).  You’ll feel as if you’ve actually visited the place, so well done is the description.

As the novel of the second episode opens it is slightly before the time of the birth of his Earth son. After Joshua reluctantly decides to return to Theon, the guilt of leaving Alexandra, his first love, and Andrew his son to be, dulls his senses as he traverses the void between Earth and Theon. His thoughts thus consumed he is unaware of the pull towards the dark planet Crlllion until suddenly an internal alarm alerts him. Trying desperately to gain control, he wonders if the barbarians are actually the cause of the diversion in his transport destination. Joshua’s plight is detected on Theon by the Ruler, Heron, in time to avoid disaster by correcting his trajectory, and bringing him safely through the void. As the weeks and months pass, Joshua and his Theonian wife, the Ruler’s daughter, settle into a normal routine while awaiting the birth of their son Adam. Meanwhile the birth of his Earth-bound son, Andrew, proceeded in near unison with his half-brother.

Joshua’s decision to return to Theon leaves his first love feeling hopelessly abandoned which drives her into the arms of his best friend.  Although reluctant at first, the feeling of total loss compromises Alexandra’s innermost desires for the sake of her son, Andrew.  Before her marriage can be consummated Alexandra’s husband-to-be “dies” in a mysterious car crash. His body is never recovered, which drives her to the brink of insanity.  She doesn’t realize these events are being orchestrated by the Ruler of Theon and his henchman on Earth.

Theon’s Council and its Ruler, Heron, worry that Joshua’s loyalty to his first love on Earth cannot be completely broken. Believing it to be the only way to keep him on Theon, they plot to destroy all his Earthly ties, which mean the destruction of Alexandra and his first-born son, Andrew. Detecting their plan, Joshua, with extra-ordinary powers gained from discovering their Ancient culture, imprisons Theon’s Council within the depths of the planet where signs of their ill health, manifests itself.

While Joshua’s attention is diverted on Theon, he is unaware that on Earth, his young son, Andrew, desperately wishes to spend this third birthday with his alien brother. Andrew plans to wait until all are asleep before teleporting to Theon to be with Adam. He does not realize the danger he places himself in, or the heartache he causes everyone, both on Earth and on Theon.

Joshua’s search for Andrew brings him to an offbeat planet where he discovers the answer to a long sought secret. He knows, once he sees to Andrew’s safety, he will have to return to the rescue site in order to ensure no evidence remains that might lead the Theonian nemesis, the barbarians of the dark planet Crlllion, to them.

With the death of Heron, Theon’s Ruler and Adrianne’s father, the role of Leader is thrust upon Joshua and any thoughts of life on Earth forces a decision he would rather not make. After all, each of the two women is desirable and they are the Mothers of his children. Reluctantly, final decisions must be made for the survival of an entire race, the safety of his two sons, and the home he yearns for where the happiness of his first love still remains.

Review by: Angela Verdenius author of:
“Soul of the Forgotten” Wings Press Author, Australia

The Theonians, a civilization far advanced, and with fantastic psychic abilities, are on the brink of disaster.  The need to find another universe with a compatible life form is urgent.

That life form is found on Earth.  The Theonians easily integrate amongst the people of Sarah’s Landing, New England, unbeknownst to the inhabitants.
Joshua Morgan is a special investigator of the Alien Intelligence Team of the Space Intelligence Command (SICOM).  In love with telepath Alexandria, he mysteriously vanishes leaving her alone and pregnant.

On Theon, he is chosen as the next leader of the Theons, and joins with Adrianne, the daughter of the leader, Heron.  He also fathers a baby with her, and telepathically, all five are linked ? Alexandria, Adrianne, Joshua and the babies, sons Andrew and Adam.

Joshua’s friend, Lt Harry Jacobsen, loves Alexandria, and hopes to marry her.  At first disbelieving, he eventually comes to realize that she speaks the truth about another species.  This results in his disappearance and ‘believed death’.

The problems are building at a tremendous rate, for now not only is Joshua caught in a quadrangle with the two women and the two sons he loves, but the possible ‘neutralizing’ of Alexandria and her son Andrew by certain Theon Council members is a very real threat.  Internal conflict breaks out between the Earth men who live on Theon and the Theon council themselves.  Andrew disappears when trying to teleport to Theon. And to top it all off, a growing threat in the form of a cannibalistic race called the Crlllions is looming.

A story of epic proportions, book 2 of Sarah’s Landing is a whirlwind of happenings and possibilities, and heart-wrenching emotion, as a group of people are caught up in a future of what remains to be seen…horror, love, or despair?  What are the secrets that link Sarah’s Landing to the Theonians?

Elena Bowman is a mistress of her craft!  A recommended read for any lover of the sci-fi genre.
