The Salvation of Tanlegalle – Author, Tim Ahrens

February 20, 2011 at 2:17 pm (old world) (, , , , )

The Salvation of Tanlegalle

I am not usually a reader of Fantasy. However, when I was asked to read The Salvation of Tanlegalle for Author, Tim Ahrens I decided to give it a go. I must say that reading this book was a complete and utter joy. Mr. Ahrens took several stand alone short stories and wove them into a wonderful novel of fantasy and suspense. He writes in both first person and third person which as an author is very diffucult to do successfully.
He weaves the story in such a way that the reader wants to know how all of these short stories melt toghether. Tanlegalle is a society that has lost its way and its memories and with that it has also lost its true purpose. All of the history has been destroyed and forgotten through apathy or greed and corruption. All that remains is a city full of citizens who have no souls. But one person is determined to renew the life and vitality of this city and the past. He seeks the “One” who will make that happen.

This book is written in such a way that I would recommend it for young teens as well as adults. It is suspenseful, thrilling, and well written. In many ways Mr. Ahrens has defined our society of today. He has written this story in such a way that shows what happens when people lose their way through greed and corruption and the refusal to learn from the past.
I give this book a five start rating.

Briggen and Quinhelm rush home as the powerful Xandoth and their allies surge across the galaxy, killing and laying waste to everything they encounter. As Briggen confronts the evil Sorceress of Endih, squabbling nobles and an assassin on his home planet, the great dragon Ephereon abducts the good sorceress, Telana, instructing her in the ways of magic. To her astonishment, Telana learns that she is the Chosen One, the one foretold by the ancients to lead the people of Mantasi to a stunning victory. Telana joins forces with Briggen as they battle the Xandoth for supremacy over the planet. Will magic and courage triumph over the powerful forces of evil?

Devils CrescentIn The Devil’s Crescent, hardened bounty hunter Diego Montoya descends upon a small Texas village in the midst of a cloudburst and boldly plunges into the life of beautiful, small time cattle rancher, Maggie MacNaughton. Diego is a man haunted by a past filled with death and disappointment, a nobleman fleeing from the dictates of his demanding father and an arranged marriage. When a U.S. Marshall asks Diego to infiltrate a gun runner’s operation, Diego reluctantly agrees, shadowing the powerful land baron, Morgan Lansing. Morgan’s efforts play into the hands of a group of Mexican nationalists, who quickly claim the land vacated by the terrified settlers until only one parcel stands in the way of their march toward the border — the one occupied by Maggie MacNaughton. Diego and Maggie match wits and wills as the danger mounts. Only their reliance upon each other has the power to save them from a swift and certain death.

CrenellationsCrenellations is a marvelous collection of poetry that will enchant and inspire the reader to the greatest of human emotions. This is a seamless journey from the mist-enshrouded hills of Scotland to the peace of the Cathedral at York, from the mysterious Stonehenge to the sparkling vision of a fairy bower, and from dragons and wizards to the simplest of Earth’s creatures. May this journey be but the first step as we stride the path of greater knowledge, embracing all that we are and all that we may some day become.

Sixteen-year-old Caitlanna Mullen lives in a harsh world where technology no longer exists. In her post-apocalyptic society, she salvages priceless artifacts for trade. One artifact is especially desired. The Mask of Tamirella. Cait steals the Mask from another sanction, putting her own at risk. As punishment, the Elders send her to a hazardous dig. She must travel through a mutant forest without becoming a sacrifice and into Rotted City, where toxic ruins hoard an ancient disease. To complicate matters, the man she loves accompanies her group. Cait’s life takes an unexpected turn when she uncovers secrets she never imagined.

Will this sixteen-year-old survive in a place where death and injury are daily concerns? Can she quell her feelings for a man forbidden to touch her until she’s older? by Dana Davis

2009 Next Generation Indie Awards Finalist

Daisy Hammel-Kavanaugh lives a perfectly average life in the Arizona desert, except for one thing. She’s a witch. Her relatives and ancestors consist of various, and sometimes colorful, paranormals. When Daisy is attacked by a mystical, ghost-like figure, she must enlist the aid of those she trusts in her quest to find and eliminate this enemy before he destroys her.

There’s another problem. To ensure her success, she must somehow get her hands on a treasured and protected Native American artifact, without pissing off the entire Indian community. Desert creatures, ancient myths, sex and magick abound in Daisy’s world but can she trust herself to know what is real and what isn’t?

Josh’s Dragon by Jerry Pat Bolton illustrated by His Grandson

August 7, 2009 at 11:25 pm (Uncategorized) (, , , , )

Josh's DragonMy grandson asked his mother, “Why doesn’t granddad write something I can read?” He is eleven. So I wrote him a dragon story. What’s not to like about dragons? In “Josh’s Dragon,” a 247 page fantasy, I tried my best for him. He was eleven-years-old when I wrote the story and he designed the front cover, and the drawing of the dragons I include at the beginning of each chapter he also sketched. Proud? Of course I am.

Sarah's Landing II - * The Telepaths of TheonSynopsis of The Telepaths of Theon – Book 2 – Sarah’s Landing Series:

Sarah’s Landing –II – The Telepaths of Theon  – Synopsis

Torn by the plight of the people of the planet Theon and his love for one of their daughters, the man from Earth, Joshua has returned to his own planet to re-evaluate his dedication to his first love. As the novel of the second episode opens it is slightly before the time of the birth of his Earth son. After Joshua reluctantly decides to return to Theon, the guilt of leaving Alexandra, his first love, and Andrew his son to be, dulls his senses as he traverses the void between Earth and Theon. His thoughts thus consumed he is unaware of the pull towards the dark planet Crlllion until suddenly an internal alarm alerts him. Trying desperately to gain control, he wonders if the barbarians are actually the cause of the diversion in his transport destination. Joshua’s plight is detected on Theon by the Ruler, Heron, in time to avoid disaster by correcting his trajectory, and bringing him safely through the void. As the weeks and months pass, Joshua and his Theonian wife, the Ruler’s daughter, settle into a normal routine while awaiting the birth of their son Adam. Meanwhile the birth of his Earth-bound son, Andrew, proceeded in near unison with his half-brother.

Joshua’s decision to return to Theon leaves his first love feeling hopelessly abandoned which drives her into the arms of his best friend.  Although reluctant at first, the feeling of total loss compromises Alexandra’s innermost desires for the sake of her son, Andrew.  Before her marriage can be consummated Alexandra’s husband-to-be “dies” in a mysterious car crash. His body is never recovered, which drives her to the brink of insanity.  She doesn’t realize these events are being orchestrated by the Ruler of Theon and his henchman on Earth.

Theon’s Council and its Ruler, Heron, worry that Joshua’s loyalty to his first love on Earth cannot be completely broken. Believing it to be the only way to keep him on Theon, they plot to destroy all his Earthly ties, which mean the destruction of Alexandra and his first-born son, Andrew. Detecting their plan, Joshua, with extra-ordinary powers gained from discovering their Ancient culture, imprisons Theon’s Council within the depths of the planet where signs of their ill health, manifests itself.

While Joshua’s attention is diverted on Theon, he is unaware that on Earth, his young son, Andrew, desperately wishes to spend this third birthday with his alien brother. Andrew plans to wait until all are asleep before teleporting to Theon to be with Adam. He does not realize the danger he places himself in, or the heartache he causes everyone, both on Earth and on Theon.

Joshua’s search for Andrew brings him to an offbeat planet where he discovers the answer to a long sought secret. He knows, once he sees to Andrew’s safety, he will have to return to the rescue site in order to ensure no evidence remains that might lead the Theonian nemesis, the barbarians of the dark planet Crlllion, to them.

With the death of Heron, Theon’s Ruler and Adrianne’s father, the role of Leader is thrust upon Joshua and any thoughts of life on Earth forces a decision he would rather not make. After all, each of the two women is desirable and they are the Mothers of his children. Reluctantly, final decisions must be made for the survival of an entire race, the safety of his two sons, and the home he yearns for where the happiness of his first love still remains.

The Telepaths of Theon – Book 2 – Sarah’s Landing Series
by Elena dorothy Bowman
ISBN#1-594312-598-1
Write Words, Inc./Cambridge Books

Review by: Angela Verdenius author of:
“Soul of the Forgotten” Wings Press Author, Australia

The Theonians, a civilization far advanced, and with fantastic psychic abilities, are on the brink of disaster.  The need to find another universe with a compatible life form is urgent.

That life form is found on Earth.  The Theonians easily integrate amongst the people of Sarah’s Landing, New England, unbeknownst to the inhabitants.
Joshua Morgan is a special investigator of the Alien Intelligence Team of the Space Intelligence Command (SICOM).  In love with telepath Alexandria, he mysteriously vanishes leaving her alone and pregnant.

On Theon, he is chosen as the next leader of the Theons, and joins with Adrianne, the daughter of the leader, Heron.  He also fathers a baby with her, and telepathically, all five are linked ? Alexandria, Adrianne, Joshua and the babies, sons Andrew and Adam.

Joshua’s friend, Lt Harry Jacobsen, loves Alexandria, and hopes to marry her.  At first disbelieving, he eventually comes to realize that she speaks the truth about another species.  This results in his disappearance and ‘believed death’.

The problems are building at a tremendous rate, for now not only is Joshua caught in a quadrangle with the two women and the two sons he loves, but the possible ‘neutralizing’ of Alexandria and her son Andrew by certain Theon Council members is a very real threat.  Internal conflict breaks out between the Earth men who live on Theon and the Theon council themselves.  Andrew disappears when trying to teleport to Theon. And to top it all off, a growing threat in the form of a cannibalistic race called the Crlllions is looming.

A story of epic proportions, book 2 of Sarah’s Landing is a whirlwind of happenings and possibilities, and heart-wrenching emotion, as a group of people are caught up in a future of what remains to be seen…horror, love, or despair?  What are the secrets that link Sarah’s Landing to the Theonians?

Elena Bowman is a mistress of her craft!  A recommended read for any lover of the sci-fi genre.
